Introduction to LASIK and other refractive surgeries


The word LASIK is commonly used to refer to all procedure that gets rid of one's glasses.  The procedure that changes the prescription of the eye is called refractive surgery.  Since the late 1970's, ophthalmologist have routinely treated patients who were nearsighted, farsighted, or had astigmatism with a number of vision correction procedures known as "refractive surgery."  Although LASIK is the most popular procedure we perform today, some patients are better candidates for other vision correction procedure.  This website will cover a number of technologically-advanced refractive procedures available to our patients who want to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
