The AcrySof Toric IOL is a new addition to the list of "premium IOL's." Toric IOLs are single focus lenses that correct for astigmatism. Their main advantage is that for patients that have astigmatism, this lens will correct the astigmatism and provide for a clear vision at a single point, near or far. Some patients may not be willing to compromise some quality of vision, as in the case for multifocal lenses. Toric IOLs provide an uncompromised perfect vision with excellent accuracy in correcting the astigmatism.
The Toric IOL's are calculated using a sophisticated computer program that takes into account the natural astigmatism of the eye and the consequent astigmatism induced from the surgery. The pre-operative computer print out for the patient on the right is presented below.
